Leoda's, a pie shop on the highway to Leihana in Maui, encompassed all the things I love about American diners without being garish. The sophisticated decor and quirky soundtrack (Smiths covers) was a nice touch. Here's hoping that someone opens something like it back home.
Leoda's Kitchen & Pie Shop
Lately I have been thinking how great it would be to have a Pie Shop open at home in Auckland. I love American diners. The smell of coffee, gleaming serviette holders on tables and friendly but brisk staff. These elements aren't unknown at typical New Zealand cafes, but diners have an atmosphere all to their own. Then there's the food. Sweet pies of course, and Reubens and a multitude of other other deli classics.
